The Endoscopic Discectomy Procedure
A laser endoscopic discectomy is a modern alternative approach to treating severely herniated discs that are damaged and painful. An alternative to aggressive treatments like major back surgery, a laser endoscopic discectomy is performed through scopes with x-ray guidance. Small instruments are guided into the disc space, removing the herniated disc or using laser as well as other techniques to shrink the herniation and seal tears in the disc thus alleviating pain. This can be accomplished on an outpatient basis, same day procedure, with minimal micro-incisions. This procedure may be an optimal choice of treatment prior to considering more extensive radicular surgery.
